Inventa Partners Appointed for Energy and Environmental Project
in £1.5 billion
Elephant & Castle Regeneration
The Elephant & Castle Regeneration Project team has appointed Inventa
Partners Limited, in association with Brian Dunlop Associates consulting engineers,
to advise on the feasibility of establishing a public/ private joint venture
EESCo (Energy and Environmental Services Company) to provide heating, cooling
and power at a local level for Southwark Councils £1.5 billion
development in South London.
Inventa Partners will identify key technologies and capabilities that the
Elephant & Castle project team can employ, as well as potential commercial
partners and methods of alternative funding. The company specialises in the
application of new building and construction technology often 5 to
10 years in advance of the sectors current state of the art
- with access to resources that include £60 billion of research funding
and 30,000 scientists through its European technology partners, the company
says.
The project brief for Inventa Partners and Brian Dunlop Associates is to support
the sustainable regeneration of Elephant & Castle through the design of
renewable energy and alternative sources of water supply; the delivery of
energy and environmental services to residents and businesses; climate responsive
architecture and urban design; on-site generation of heat and power; and community
heating and power infrastructure.
Chris Horn, Elephant & Castle urban redevelopment project director, says:-
"The £1.5billion Elephant & Castle urban redevelopment
project, backed by the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, will over the next
10 years re-develop and revitalise the Elephant & Castle area of Southwark,
representing one of the largest urban redevelopment projects in Europe.
"We have set ourselves very stretching goals for energy efficiency and
sustainable development in order to meet the social and environmental needs
of the generations that will live and work in the area. Inventa Partners have
been appointed to bring innovation and thinking to all areas of this project
and will look to harness the knowledge of their European technology partners
as well as their extensive commercial networks to meet the long term objectives
of this project.
"Their association with Brian Dunlop Associates provides us with a unique
combination of knowledge, capability and innovation that should ensure that
we are well placed to make the right energy and environmental decisions as
we move forward".
Inventa Partners was set up in 2001 to identify new advances in technology
that companies in the building and construction sector can employ to achieve
competitive advantage through product differentiation. The companys
services include management of the process of technology transfer through
to full commercialisation, supported by relationships with its major European
research and development partners such as QinetiQ and the Fraunhofer Institute.

2. Inventa Partners
Inventa Partners enable companies to develop new strategic business opportunities
by resolving the critical obstacles to major technological innovation in their
manufacturing processes, materials and finished products.
Inventa Partners, of Winchester in Hampshire, was founded in 2001 and is currently
focused on innovation within the built environment: the materials,
processes and structures required for the construction, maintenance and servicing
of residential and commercial property, public spaces and transport infrastructure.
The building and construction sector increasingly requires new solutions to
meet the growing technical demands arising from environmental, legislation
and other pressures. Current project applications by Inventa range from finding
new materials for minimising the water and energy consumption of building
services systems, to advanced coatings for the external fabric of buildings
that will reduce the cost of operation.
Inventa offers client companies a knowledge base of technological innovation
that is often five to ten years ahead of an industrys prevailing state
of the art, the company says. This results from successful R&D undertaken
by Inventas technology partners, with resources that include some 30,000
scientists and more than £60 billion of research funding.
