Kerry Thompson, Executive Director

Executive Director and co-Founder of Inventa Partners Ltd., Kerry has over 25 years experience in corporate business development and operations experience in the financial, IT and telecommunications industries. He has significant innovative business development expertise in new technology, new media and blue chip financial services - retail and corporate sectors and in emerging technology startup companies where he has held Board and interim Chief Officer positions.

He has significant business management expertise in blue chip global telecommunications networks, consultancy and corporate ‘futures’ strategy and has extensive experience in defining, financing and establishing joint ventures in the financial and technology sectors.

His previous roles have included interim COO of a mobile wireless technology startup and Managing Director of the European arm of a USA telecommunications consultancy. Prior to this he reached Director level at Barclays Bank, where as a member of the Corporate Development Team, he was responsible for leading the Group-wide exploration of future business environments and development of new value creating options to extend the Groups portfolio of businesses. He has wide-ranging expertise in both the retail and corporate sectors, as well as in global telecommunications networks and corporate strategy

During his work as MD of JRA (Europe), Kerry worked with large corporates to develop their business and commercial propositions, developing their corporate infrastructure and products and services. He also worked for a Swiss private equity & investment bank as interim Chief Technology Officer, to advise on strategic new-media and technology investments and to provide resources and support to the organisation and its various enterprises.

While at Barclays Bank, Kerry was instrumental in the development and launch of a joint venture with 6 major global banks. This was voted “No. 1 Most Significant Deal” in 1998 by Future Banker (in American Banker magazine). Barclays was recognised as a leader of business and technology input to the venture.

During his operational career at Barclays, he held various senior roles in the IT division, culminating in his role as Head of International Services for Barclays Technology Services business (with revenues in excess of £350m), he was responsible for the delivery of all international voice and data networks and services to the Barclays Group worldwide (to over 80 countries).

This role involved working with the most senior operations directors of the Barclays Group in the complete restructuring of the global networks operations and management processes, establishing major international project management practices and processes and the implementation of viable, trusted cost recovery mechanisms – viewed as equitable and reliable.

He also conceptualized, championed, established and managed a major project to test external market opportunities for the outsourcing of Barclays’ global voice and data networks. Running a full procurement process, negotiating the final agreements at senior director level, achieving significant savings for Barclays and exceeding its original targets. This culminated in the successful completion of the implementation and operationalisation of the outsourced services via the co-ordination of a multi-national team of employees and consultants across four continents and more than 20 sites worldwide.
